Installing the Android app

The Android app is for agents who call from a handset. It records every call the phone carries — WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and the ordinary SIM line — which makes it the widest net of any of the recorders.

What it needs

Android versionAndroid 11 or later
AccountA Qualitify account with the sales agent role
StorageRoom for recordings waiting to upload; they are deleted once uploaded
NetworkAny. Recordings wait on the phone and go up when there is one
RootNot needed, and not supported. It is an ordinary app using ordinary permissions

iPhone

Not possible. iOS gives no application access to call audio and provides no equivalent of the permission the Android app relies on, so there is no iPhone version and will not be one. Agents on an iPhone need the desktop app on a computer.

Getting the app

Get the apps

The APK is on Get the apps in the agent’s own dashboard and on the public download page. Open either on the phone itself and download it there — transferring it from a computer works but is more steps than it is worth.

Android asks for permission to install an app from outside the Play Store the first time. That prompt is about the browser you downloaded with, not about Qualitify, and it is granted once per phone.

Installing and signing in

  1. Open the downloaded file and confirm the install.
  2. Open the app and sign in with the agent’s Qualitify email and password. An invited agent sets that password from the link in their invitation.
  3. Work through the setup screen, which lists every permission and whether it has been granted. This is the step that matters — see the permissions page for what each one is for.
  4. Make one test call and check it reaches the dashboard.

Do not skip call capture access

Android deliberately gives ordinary apps silence during a call. One permission — Call capture access, granted from the Accessibility list — is what lifts that. Without it the app still logs calls and the audio is empty, which looks like the product not working rather than a permission being off. It is the one prompt an agent must not decline.

The setup screen

The app keeps a list of what it needs and what it has, so an agent — or whoever is helping them — can see at a glance what is still missing. It is worth revisiting after a system update, because Android occasionally revokes an accessibility permission on upgrade and this screen is where that shows.

Each entry explains itself on the screen it appears on, so an agent granting them is not working blind.

Making the test call

  1. Call a colleague and talk for thirty seconds. Say something recognisable.
  2. Check the notice that the call is being recorded appears.
  3. Hang up, and wait a minute on a working connection.
  4. Open Calls in the dashboard. The call should be listed with a Source of Mobile and the platform it came in on.
  5. Play it back. Both sides should be audible, with the other person quieter than the agent.

Do this on each phone. Handsets differ more than anybody would like — a permission model that behaves on a Pixel can behave differently on a Xiaomi — and a test call per device finds that on day one rather than in a month.

Running it day to day

It runs in the background
The agent does not open it to make a call. A permanent notification says collection is running, which is both how Android allows it and how the agent can always tell.
Battery
Allow Ignore battery optimisation or expect gaps. Manufacturer power savers are the most common cause of collection stopping mid-shift, especially on Xiaomi, Oppo and Samsung handsets.
Storage
Recordings are deleted from the phone once the server confirms it holds them. Nothing accumulates. A phone that has been offline for a week will be holding that week.
Reviews in the app
An agent can read the reviews written about them on the phone, newest first, and play the call back where the owner allows it.
Signing out
Ends collection on that handset and frees the session.

What is not recorded

  • Calls made while the app is signed out.
  • Video, in a video call. The audio is captured; no picture is kept.
  • Messages. The app watches for calls and reads nothing else.
